Grotto Gallery
Contemporary art and design gallery
2022, Bucharest, Romania
Grotto Gallery is a multi-purpose space in the Armeneasca neighborhood of Bucharest, established in 2022 and situated on the ground floor of an Art Deco residential building.
The plaster intervention on the façade extends the existing material of the residential building, echoing traditional application and execution techniques reminiscent of the period in which the building was originally designed. The gallery's key feature is its large street-facing window, to enhance this, we transformed the window ledge into a discreet bench, creating an inviting space for social interaction.
The interior is approached with a minimalist and refined aesthetic, featuring subtle shades of gray—derived from both the metal elements and the microcement flooring—as well as the paint pigment used on the walls.
The neutral tones used throughout the space serve as a backdrop for the exhibits displayed in the gallery.
The studio collaborated with the gallery in designing exhibition setups for performative events, art shows and design exhibitions. The approach drew inspiration from the raw aesthetics of construction sites, bringing typically hidden structural elements into focus, strategy that helped us built a strong identity in a sustainable manner.
