Bar ton
Audiophile bar and vinyl records shop
2023, Bucharest, Romania
BAR TON is a contemporary reinterpretation of the building’s social-modernist spirit. Birch plywood, mosaic floors, and stainless steel fixtures bring minimal decor to a utilitarian setting. The space offers a cozy listening experience—like hiding under the sheets and playing music with friends. Designed to foster community, it connects with the neighborhood by opening the plan and dissolving boundaries between interior and exterior. A raw metal glass façade replaced the old one, creating an airy, welcoming atmosphere. The existing battlement is now a two-sided bench, accessible from both inside and out. The layout is defined by four large concrete pillars that structure the square-ish room. Programs overlap in an open plan centered on music, with bar and restrooms on the side, and a banquette on the perimeter. A custom lamp marks the symmetrical music area, evoking a chapel-like reverence for sound. Natural materials—wood, metal, textile—anchor the project in sustainability and warmth.
