Altar
Furniture design
Free standing shelves, aluminium and textile, 20x20x170cm
ALTAR is a functional and contemplative object, that holds the duality between concealment and revelation, privacy and public disclosure, dwelling deeper into the complexities of personal narratives and the curated presentation of the ego. Crafted with precision from sleek aluminium elements, the object is composed of four slender pillars, interrupted by four discrete shelves. The top and bottom segments are enclosed with a finely woven fringe curtain, casting a veil of mystery over the hidden compartments. This deliberate secrecy is displayed within reach, tempting to be disclosed. In contrast, the two middle segments remain exposed, offering a transparent showcase for sacred possessions. Here, the collector's objects are openly displayed, fostering a connection between object and viewer, revealing the chosen truth. The contrast between concealed and revealed elements underscores the tireless series of decisions we make to craft our public identity, while also raising doubts about maintaining authenticity throughout this process.
